Hair Do's & Dont's..

Let's go ahead and just dive right on in with the topic of the evening.. The hair DO'S and DON'TS for the professional arena.  With the times changing, so are trending hair styles.  I can remember back in the early to mid 90's all the fellas were pressed to get that Bush Temp while you might have caught a young lady rocking some finger waves or pixy braids or something.  But now it seems that BOLD is it.  The day of Mr. T looking  a fool with the mohawk, now you'd catch a bunch of today's celebrities from Chris Brown to Chad Ochocino sporting one.  The Mohawk or the Frohawk are now in.

The Mohawk & Frohawk are now in but is it business appropriate.  Well it's obvious in the Sports and Entertainment world it is but what about the firefighter, the police officer, the high school teacher, or regular government employee?  You ask me, I say no it's not.  Is it stylish, sure to some it is.  But that doesn't mean it's appropriate for work.  Now does this mean you can't get a job because you have one.  Of course not, there is ALWAYS an exception to the rule.  The problem with exceptions is that a lot of times, we believe that because we see a friend of ours or know someone who is that exception we believe we can be as well.  But the problem with exceptions are they aren't the standard.  Meaning, just because your friend was the exception, DOENS'T MEAN YOU WILL BE.

Now some of you might say, well people felt the same way about dreads maybe 10 or 12 years ago and you'd be correct.  But it's not always often that these types of stereotypes change especially with the people who are doing the hiring.  I mean, it's hard enough to get a job now a days and you want to compound it by your presentation.  I just don't get it.  But again, that is just me.  This is just my opinion, it doesn't make it gospel because I know a bunch of people who work for the Federal Government, Marketing Firms and Law Offices who have Frohawks.  So its possible, but possibilities don't make it right.

This also goes for my ladies with this ridiculous colors.

What happened to Black, Brown, Red, or Blonde, maybe a little Burnt Orange?  What happened to colors like those?  Recently I was looking for a new publicist.  I'm taking on new projects and wanted someone with a fresh way of thinking to help me accomplish what it is I'm trying to do.  So I spoke with this one firm, which will remain nameless, but I'm speaking with this publicist over the phone.  She is pitching her company to me to see if I'd be interested in meeting with her for her to really pitch her company and her services.  I'm game.  I mean, she was on point.  So I decide to meet her and to see how she can help my career reach the next level and the only thing I'm focusing on is her purple tracks in her head.

Would someone say it's cute?  Possibly, but needless to say she didn't get my business.  Why?  Because to me, it wasn't appropriate.  How is she supposed to handle my publicity when she'd be the publicity.  Well, in my mind her hair do's would be.  If I felt this way, don't other possible employers.  I meant I've seen women with red yawn braids, pink wigs, blue hair.. Even seen this one lady who had Christmas colors.  She had green and red tracks mixed in her hair.. Are you serious?  How do you think that is acceptable?  Please someone let me know.  I posted this same question on Facebook earlier today and some people said its cool if you work at McDonalds or Target or some where like that but I disagree with that.  I don't think it's cool either way.

Mother's Day Gifts.. Hmmmm

First let me say Happy Mother’s Day to all the women doing their thing out there and to all the fellas who play the role of mother & father in their kid’s life.. Hope yesterday was a relaxing time for you..

So of course today, I have a Mother’s Day themed blog.  Lol.. Well, last Friday or Thursday someone mentioned on Facebook how this guy was on Steve Harvey’s showing saying he doesn’t get his wife & the mother of his children anything for Mother’s Day.  The only person he buys a gift for is his mother.  It got me to wondering, is he wrong.

Personally, I don’t think he is.  His wife, though yes the mother of his children, isn’t his mom.  Why does he need to give her a gift?  She gets Valentine’s Day (though I don’t believe in that also), Anniversary, Her Birthday, and Christmas.  If anyone is to give her a gift on being the great mother she is, it should be the kids.  What if they don’t feel she is a great mom?  So now, she got a gift for nothing... lol... Ok, now that is a bit over the top, I know.  But my point is the reason for Mother’s Day is to thank YOUR mother for all that she has done for you and show your gratitude.  Well, that means her kids should do that, not him.

When I was a child, I made my mom cards saying how much I loved her and Happy Mother’s Day and those meant more to her than any store bought gift or card.  I actually remember when I was like 11 or 12 I’d saved up my money to get her this cheap little necklace from Service Merchandise.  Man, nothing could erase that smile on her face that day.  It wasn’t some gift my dad got her and said it was from me, no it was an actual gift from me showing my appreciation.  That is what mattered. 

I mean, one lady came on the air and said she was divorcing her husband... Of 20 years mind you... Because she never got over the fact that 6 months after she had their son he didn’t get her nothing on Mother’s Day and said she wasn’t his mother.  He wasn’t lying.  She wasn’t.  And if you that gift meant that much to you, obviously you don’t get the true spirit of Mother’s Day.  I’m sorry, but for Father’s Day I’m thanking the mothers of my children for giving me the greatest gift of all... MY KIDS... They are my gift.

Somehow we lose sight of that within this commercialized society that says I need to go to Jared or every kiss beings with Kay to make your perfect day.  I say, BULLISH!  This year, my mom texted me and told me that she’d heard from my brother and sister but hadn’t yet heard from me and it was shocking because I’m normally the first to say something to her.  I told her this year I wanted to try something new and give her the gift of peace!  I call or text her just about every day about various things whether it’s an issue in my life, something going on with my kids, or just to say hi.  This year I wanted to give her the gift of peace.  Give her a day free of having to be Mom or Grandma.  Just a day, free to enjoy herself and do whatever she wanted to do because for 364 days out the year I’m right there in her ear... lol... And she said thank you.  My mom knows how much I love her & what she means to me and if she doesn’t feel that all day EVERYDAY, then me saying it on Mother’s Day really isn’t appreciation now is it???

Baby Momma Drama

Let’s go ahead and just dive right on in.. Let’s talk about T.O.  lol… What you thought I was going to speak on Obama supporting gay marriages in 2012 when he was clearly against it in 2008.  No, for what!!  I’m willing to bet that 75% of you have already made up your mind on how you feel about the situation.  So there is no need for me to add my 2 cents to the fold.  But, T.O. that is a different story….

Ok in case you didn’t know or missed what the buzz is about, Terrell Owens (T.O.) went on Dr. Phil with the 3 women who he has fathered 4 children with.  On this show, they pretty much ripped him for an hour.  I honestly didn’t want to even watch the show because for one, we don’t need to know your business Brah.. Come on.. But then I said, yeah.. Lets check it out.  Let’s see why women are so upset.

Then I find out they T.O. basically decided to NOT be apart of his kids life because 2 of the women he had kids with are in his eyes “gold diggers!”  Wow!  There is so much wrong in that statement to even comment on.  As a father of 5 beautiful children, I can’t even imagine not being in my kid’s life.  My 13 year old has a track meet tomorrow.  He has to be at the field by 7:30am and do you know where I’ll be???  I’ll be right there with him as he is checking in and cheering him on when he runs.  Is my son the star athlete, no.  At best he’ll probably finish 4^th or 5^th but guess what, none of that matters.  He is my son and he could come in last and I’d still be proud of him.  I’m not missing anything that has to deal with them, why because those are MY CHILDREN.

But T.O. you think that not seeing the kids is a way to hurt their moms, NO YOU IDIOT!!! You are hurting those kids.  You know, kind of how you felt when your dad didn’t come see you or be a part of your life and HE LIVED ACROSS THE STREET FROM YOU.  Yeah, I know that hurt.  But I’m not going to spend this whole blog getting on you.

Ladies… You are just as foul.  Why you might ask?  One of the women, NOT COURT ORDERED MIND YOU, was getting $6,000 then $8,000, $10,000 and $12,000 a MONTH!!  Are you joking???  I’m a father of 5 kids with his own house and bills to match and I don’t even make 6-12,000 a month and we are doing just fine.  Your child gets more in child support than I make a year and you are complaining.  Let me ask you something, how much do you make a year.  Hmmm, I’m willing to bet.. Probably something close to what I am.  So your child is supposed to be your come up.

I swear, this is why I hate the child support system.  No one can tell me that any child needs $96,000 a year.  I know T.O. has money, but that still doesn’t make it right.  That child wouldn’t be deprived getting his daycare paid, clothes on his back, food in the fridge and money towards college each month and that damn sure isn’t $6-12k a year.  Come on???  Let’s be real here!  These women are using their cooch to come up.  THAT ISN’T RIGHT!!!

I say we have set child support across the board period for different tax brackets.. If you make 8 figures a year or more, you should pay $5,000 in child support.  If you make 7 figures a year or more, you should pay $4,000 in child support.  If you make 6 figures a year or more, you should pay $2,000.  If you make $50-100, you should pay 500-1000.. And if you make $20-50k $200-500 and if you make under $20k then you BETTER FIND A JOB to pay at least the $200 cause you didn’t spend the $3.95-$4.00 to get a condom!!!  You paying something slim.

Now a lot of you might think that I’m letting people with money off the hook without having to pay these ridiculous numbers but I’m really not.  The child is still being taken care of.  You can’t tell me that a child will need over  $5,000 a month.  Cut the jokes!  I guarantee some “gold diggers” will stop investing their cooch for future child support payments!

Let the Journey begin

Man it's been a long time coming as most of you might know, especially if you are friends with me on Facebook.  My mind always wanders into different places and usually lands no where near where it's supposed to be.  So what better solution than to just allow my mind to run free within a blog.. hahaha!!!  I'm definitely going to have so much fun with this thing, as I do with anything.  

What we will be discussing, Lord only knows because I surely don't.  Y'all know I have 2 sides.  If you didn't, well now you know.  There Harold & then there is Harell.  I'll let you get to know both of them and you'll see exactly how they are.  Yep, I just talked about myself in third person.  I can do that.

Now, must say this.... Please don't take anything I say personal..  Ok, I'm going to say that again because someone missed it... PLEASE DONT TAKE ANYTHING I SAY PERSONAL... Because at times I'll just say things to show you a different side of something.. We all can't and shouldn't agree on everything.  In order to become well rounded individuals, we must.. IN MY OPINION.. see or hear other peoples side.

So with that said.. Its now time to just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride
